Yarn: 1 skein of Caron Simply Soft Needles: 16 inch, size 5 and 8 circular needles and a set of size 8 double pointed needles Notions: Stitch markers, the beginning of round marker should be different from the rest. Size: Approximately 16 inches, measured flat. Gauge: 5 sts per inch, in the round on size 8 needles.

    Pattern
    Flap: Make 2 CO 3 sts with size 5 needles
    Row 1: K1fb, k1, k1fb 2: Knit
    3: *k1fb, k1, repeat from * until the last stitch k1fb 4: Knit 5: *k1fb, k1, repeat from * until the end 6: Knit
    7: repeat row 5 8-11: Knit
    Break the yarn and leave the completed flap on the needles. Make the second flap, do not break the working yarn.
    Using the backward loop cast on, co18 sts (back of hat), knit across the first flap, co 14 sts (front of hat). Join in the round and purl across the second flap, place marker for beginning of the round here (68 stitches). Beginning with a purl row, knit in garter stitch for 1 inch.
    Switch to size 8 needles and begin stockinette stitch. Row1: *K1, k1fb, repeat from * until the end of round (102 stitches)
    2: Knit Repeat row 2 until the hat measures 4 1⁄2 inches from the straight edge of the hat brim.
    Decrease for crown: Row1: *knit 17, pm, repeat from * until you reach the beginning of round marker
    (make sure you use a distinctive type to mark the beginning of the round). 2: *knit until 2 sts before the marker, k2tog, repeat from * until the end of round
    Repeat row 2 until you have 6 stitches remaining. Break yarn, weave through last 6 stitches and weave in the ends.
