You Will Need (6 things)

  • a few Piping Bags
  • ½ batch Chocolate Mousse (or your favorite filling)
  • 3 wilton 1M Decorating Tips
  • purple Gel Food Coloring
  • 1 batch Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 Cake Batter (I prefer from scratch)

Steps (6 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Prepare one batch of your favorite chocolate cake recipe, and bake in two 6-inch pans. Let cool.
Prepare 1/2 batch of your favorite filling (mine is chocolate mousse).
On your first cake layer, pipe your filling and spread evenly with an offset spatula. Then top with your second cake layer.

  2. 2

Prepare one batch of your favorite frosting (mine is cream cheese buttercream). Do a quick crumb coat on your cake. This coat of frosting does not need to be perfect, as it will be covered with rosettes.

  3. 3

Divide the remaining frosting into three portions. Leave the first portion as is (white). Then color the second portion a light purple. Finally color the third portion a dark purple.
Fill piping bags fitted with a Wilton 1M tip, one bag and tip for each color.

  4. 4

Pipe your frosting rosettes. Start on the top with your white frosting, and continue piping rosettes until the entire top is filled. Fill in any gaps with swoops and swirls.

  5. 5

Pipe the next layer of rosettes with light purple frosting. Then pipe the bottom layer of rosettes with dark purple frosting. Fill in any gaps with swoops and swirls.

  6. 6

You're all done! Serve and enjoy!
