So easy & so effective!
I was really wanting to do ombre nails but I had ran out of black polish so I just used paint. The paint is runnier & easier to blend than polish so it makes ombre nails so simple. It was so effective I just had to put it up here so everyone knows how easy it is!

  • How to paint a gradient nail. Ombre Nail Art With Acrylic Paint - Step 1
    Step 1

Get your stuff together. You'll end up with really messy hands so you want it all there & easy to get to. I didn't photograph the first step but its pretty easy, you just do a coat of polish on your nails to stop the paint from staining them & then do a thin base coat of white (I ended up doing two coats to get colour solid).

    Step 2

After the white has dried you need to paint two blocks on the make up sponge leaving a little gap between them. Get a good amount of paint on because it starts to soak into the sponge.

    Step 3

I used 3 brushes to do this design, one for the black, one for the white & another to blend the two. Blend them in the gap between the blocks. Remember you'll need to make the gradient different sizes for each nail or you'll end up with some of the smaller nails being pretty much just grey.

    Step 4

Press the sponge onto your nail. Don't press too hard or the paint that has soaked into the sponge will ooze out & build up at the sides of your nails. The first layer will be a bit faded & speckled.

Build up the layers until the colour is strong enough. I did about 3 layers. It'll look matte when it has dried.

    Step 6

Once the paint has dried put a coat of clear polish over the paint & then you're ready for clean up. Just wait until the polish is dry & then wash your hands. The paint on your fingers will start to lift off. Carefully peel it off around your nails, you don't want to peel off any of that amazing ombre you've just spent forever layering up.

    Step 7

Do two more coats of polish to protect the design & you're done. Do one hand at a time & make sure you don't get any paint on your ombre-ed nails when doing your 2nd hand. Mine are still a little messy in the photo but after washing my hands a few more times all the little bits of excess paint just came off by themselves. When you want to do something new just take it off like you would any nail polish with a polish remover. There you have it, nice & easy ombre nails.
