This is a super easy project for which even being able to sew straight is optional, as the lace covers all the snags! I have so many old badly fitting dresses around, but this one had really soft material so I decided it would be perfect for bed :)

Description

This is a super easy project for which even being able to sew straight is optional, as the lace covers all the snags! I have so many old badly fitting dresses around, but this one had really soft material so I decided it would be perfect for bed :)

Instructions

  1. Small dsc00405

This is the dress I started with - but any dress/long top would do as the sleeves and neckline are getting the chop anyway. Turn inside out.

  2. Small dsc00406

    Off go the sleeves...

  3. Small dsc00408

Turn dress around, and at the back only (!) chop the fabric off from under the armholes. Leave an inch or so above for hemming.

  4. Small dsc00411

Now, at the front (!) chop the neckline up to make booby-triangles. The size of these will depend upon how big yours are and how frisky you are feeling ;) I cut them quite big first by eye and then held them up to myself and edited from there. Leave some extra for hemming.

  5. Small dsc00414

Hem your boob triangles and the back.

  6. Small dsc00421

Now, add lace to the cleavage - just sew on - the lace with black thread covers any dodgy edges too. In the middle where it meets it may look a bit messy - like in the picture: just sew it down or use a bow to cover as I will later.

  7. Small dsc00415

Now, this part is hard to explain. The back trim and both straps are made of one continuous piece, I used 13" for each strap (thats generous) and another 13" for the back so the total piece was 39" long. Lie it as in the picture, leave the 13" for the strap hanging loose at the back top end of your boob-triangle, then attach all the way across and back up the other trangle. It should look like this:

  8. Small dsc00422

Ta da! Now just sew the lace onto the inside of the back.

  9. Small dsc00457

On goes a pretty little bow and your all done! I made this twice so far, with the two fabrics you can see in the pictures above. You could easily wear this out as well if you made it with a less pyjama-type material :)
