I love playing with new shapes. This is my take on the Octagon. Of course, they don't tessellate naturally, so you'll need small squares to fill the gaps.

I love playing with new shapes. This is my take on the Octagon. Of course, they don't tessellate naturally, so you'll need small squares to fill the gaps.

Instructions

  1. Small round 1 octagon by shelley husband 2014 447x450

    Begin with a magic circle. 8 dc, ss to first st

  2. Small round 2 octagon by shelley husband 2014 447x450

    (dc, ch 1, dc) in each (The first dc is of course 3 ch)

  3. Small round 3 octagon by shelley husband 2014 397x450

    (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each 1 ch space (First dc = 3 ch)

  4. Small round 4 octagon by shelley husband 2014 345x450

    (dc, ch 2, dc )in each 2 ch space, dc, htr, dc along sides in between stitches of round 3 (First dc = 3 ch)

  5. Small round 5 octagon by shelley husband 2014 404x450

    3 sc in each 2 ch space, sc in each stitch along the sides. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

    To make the small square for filling the gaps, begin with magic circle Round 1 : 4 x 3 hdc groups separated by 4 x 2 ch corners Round 2 : (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in each 2 ch space,1 hdc in each stitch along sides Round 3 : 3 sc in each 2 ch space, 1 sc in each stitch along sides These squares will have the same stitch count along the sides as one edge of an octagon.
