I saw a similar design while browsing through the Cut-and-Keep Website and thought I'd add my own version. This makes a handy overnight bag!

Instructions

  1. Small 2009 0209first0004 1234232751

The Bag Body-Start by cutting the bottom half of the tee-shirt off in a straight line. This is the part you will use for the bag. Save the rest of the tee, you'll need the sleeves for step 2.

  2. Small 2009 0209first0005 1234232877

The Handle:Next, cut both sleeve cuffs off, leaving about an inch from the seam. (You can leave on more of the seam if you'd like your fringes to be longer.)

  3. Small 2009 0209first0006 1234233054

Now cut the both handle pieces at the seam.

  4. Small 2009 0209first0013 1234233162

Tie the two sleeve cuffs for the handle together.

  5. Small 2009 0209first0015 1234233302

Tie LOOSE knots in each end. (This helps to mark how far down you will cut the fringes into the handle.)-You'll be untying these knots before attaching to the bag. Set this piece aside for now.

  6. Small 2009 0209first0008 1234233528

Get your bag piece and turn in so that the seam end of the piece is away from you.

  7. Small 2009 0209first0009 1234233615

Begin cutting fringes across the bottom about 4 inches deep. (Do not cut the edges that have the seam!)

  8. Small 2009 0209first0012 1234233787

Cut these fringes all the way across the piece trying to keep them about the same width. (I made mine about 1/2 and inch wide, but you can make them wider or smaller if you wish.)

  9. Small 2009 0209first0018 1234233908

Now cut the fringes in your handle piece, being careful not to cut into the cuff seam that is already there.

  10. Small 2009 0209first0020 1234234008

Next flip the bag piece around so that the seam is facing you and cut a SMALL hole about 3/4 of an inch down from the seam. Do the same on the other end of the bag.

  11. Small 2009 0209first0021 1234234153

Thread one end of your handle piece through the hole in the bag.

  12. Small 2009 0209first0022 1234234287

Make a (double)knot to tie it on. Repeat steps 11 and 12 for the other end of the handle.

  13. Small 2009 0209first0029 1234234425

Now stuff your bag with whatever you want! These are big enough and strong enough for holding binders/books/mags, or just about anything.

  14. Small 2009 0209first0027 1234234636

Stuff with a pillow and/or blanket for traveling or sleepovers. They'll hold much more than it looks-remember they are 100% cotton, which also makes them easy to wash.
