Description

I made Nina for a local film production. She had to be an antique doll, old but well looked after...

Instructions

  1. Small pattern doll 1271151583

I got the pattern from a friend. Two patterns combined, very easy and simple. The sizes here is not on a 100% scale, you have to adjust it to the sizes you want.

  2. Small 101 0815 1271153527

I made her body out of un-bleached calico. She is about 80cm(31.5in) I added a 2cm(0.8in) hem space all around every piece.

  3. Small 101 0817 1271154368

Draw a basic dress on printed fabric of your choice and cut it out, cut it very big so it can fit loose over your doll. Cut the neck line up and straight so you can tie it around the dolls neck without it pulling out.

  4. Small 101 0818 1271155002

I tied a ribbon around her neck to hide the material that I roughed around the neck area. And added 3 buttons for the fun.

  5. Small 101 0821 1271155308

The hair I made out of light weight wool. Create the lenght you want, by measuring it across the dolls head. Mark the middle of the hair, and the middle of the head across so you know were to fasten it first. Then create plats or ponies. Secure it with string or ribbon.

And voila! I also secure the plats at each side of her head with thread, and in the middle of the head.

  7. Small 101 0823 1271156016

The hat you can make out of matching material of something else you'd prefer.Just cut a circle out of the material. Measure a piece of elastic around the back of the doll's head. Measure about 5cm(2in)from the rim of the circle towards the centre, that's where you will attach the elastic. When sowing the elastic make sure to tuck firmly at the elastic so it can ruffle up nicely.

  8. Small 101 0826 1271156429

Place the hat on the doll's head where you feel it looks good. Secure the hat at 4-5 places with thread so it doesn't pop off.

  9. Small 101 0831 1271156690

Draw out a design for the face. Then draw it onto the face area of your doll. I painted the face with acrylic project paint, you can even create a face with buttons or embroidery.

And there is my Nina! All blue eyed and blushing. Have fun creating a Nina of your own... I sure did
