Moss grows rather slowly. You may not notice any changes for quite some time! If your starter moss is of the dried variety it can take even longer. Maybe you can measure your success by it not drying out and burning or becoming too mushy rather than growth. Even though it has been over a year, my moss still does not cover the jar's dirt, but it has grown over some parts.

when will the moss start growing after you put it into the terrarium?

If you want to be sure the water doesn't stagnate in a closed terrarium, you can add a layer of activated charcoal: Rocks / Charcoal / Soil / Plants / Hurray!

If you aren't sure if your moss is free of bugs just keep it seperate from other plants you care for and if you are really paranoid set up your jar outside until you are sure.

Marielle, the RIP tombstone was a button from Halloween. You can find something like it at a craft store seasonally or specialty sewing shops. Try looking for non-paper treats in Scrapbook departments, too!

I now want to make one of these. I wonder what would happen to the moss if I slipped in a few dead leaves?

I wanted to add, miraculously I have not added any water to my terrarium in a few months and it still grows and grows. I keep meaning to pick out the clover which makes things impossible to see, but I've been too lazy to do so...

I've always wanted to make a terrarium with plants, but it's really tricky to create and maintain one. But a small one with moss... this is one of the best ideas I have seen!

Thank you Sweetheart for share with us this awesome project!

[coming soon with my own version and the story behind it Happy]

OMG! So cool! I used to do this as a kid in the garden :] I would have like a dish filled with moss and when one of our cats killed a moth in the house or something I would bury them under the moss XD
