Well, my story is always the same. I'm a student (poor) and I see clothes but I can't afford them. So when I'm catching up on shows, I make things I want at the same time. I love Mickey and Minnie Mouse. And this is just an ideal skirt. I hand sew while watching hours of Tv shows. But really, all you need is patience and time :)

Description

Well, my story is always the same. I'm a student (poor) and I see clothes but I can't afford them. So when I'm catching up on shows, I make things I want at the same time. I love Mickey and Minnie Mouse. And this is just an ideal skirt. I hand sew while watching hours of Tv shows. But really, all you need is patience and time :)

Instructions

  1. Small p2187303

I started on this and realized that I was also doing a how to. I hope you can guess the work from here. I had 1.5 metres of lacey type material (the white bit) fitted thick elastic (enough to fit me but a bit tighter so it wouldn't fall off) and lots of red material. I think I have too much ruffle. But it's better more than less in this case anyways. The length of the polka material is 1.5 (I had to sew two bits together to make it 1.5 metres). The material all up cost me $10.

  2. Small p2187304

The height is however long I wanted. I made sure the elastic could fit in the skirt. Now this side is the inside of the skirt (just so you know). It hides the stitching to do it this way.

  3. Small p2187305

Fold the end of the red a little bit in (to make it neater) and sew the white onto the red.

  4. Small p2187308

If you have 1.5 metres of red, skip the following steps So put the sides together. But fold each side in a bit and then stitch, otherwise you'll get what I did with the following pic

  5. Small p2187320

=/ it's just not as neat. So fold! :) Like the next pic shows!

  6. Small p2187322

Tada (I'm too lazy/impatient to redo it like this though)

  7. Small p2187325

I sewed the first layer (only!) together. I only did the first layer because it's tricky to put the elastic through and it makes it easier to pull it through.

Wheeeeeee. I was lazy and didn't bother sewing the 2nd layer because you can get away with not doing that. But, if you want to be neater, sew the 2nd layer (the middle bit).

  11. Small p2187332

So now I had one long bit of ruffled fabric on elastic. To make it into a skirt was all about sewing the left side to the right. I did it with the elastic first, like the picture. I found because there was so much ruffle, you can get away without sewing so much.

I just put a few stitches at the bottom and it looked fine. I played around with the ruffles (moved them) until I liked it. And yeh, so I didn't really finish the end off properly but you can't tell :D yay! And it won't fall apart. I love my new skirt! xD Hope you enjoyed this tut!
