Description

The 2012 summer Olympics are right around the corner, so I decided to get in the mood and create a piece as a tribute to all the amazing athletes competing.

Instructions

  1. Small p7210756

Paint each of the 5 tape rings. There should be one in each color of the Olympic rings. Let them dry.

  2. Small p7210757

Fire up your glue gun! First glue the blue ring and the yellow ring together.

  3. Small p7210758

Add the black ring on so you have a triangle formed with the first three rings. Your rings so far should look like this.

  4. Small p7210759

Next glue the red ring and the green ring together.

  5. Small p7210760

Now glue the triangle of rings to the red and green pair. You should end up with the blue, black, and red rings on the top, and the yellow and green rings should be on the bottom. This will be the focus point of your piece.

  6. Small p7210761

Glue your Olympic rings onto the center of the mini canvas.

  7. Paint the word "London" on right below your rings. Then below that you should paint "2012." (Sorry I don't have a picture for this step. It should be pretty self-explanatory.)

  8. Small p7210762

Now we're going to prepare the bunting. Cut a bunch of tiny diamonds out of some scrap felt. Choose whatever colors you like. I decided to make mine red, white, and blue because I live in the United States.

  9. Small p7210763

Spread some fabric glue onto half of one diamond, using a toothpick if you want. At this point, cut a piece of embroidery thread that's a few inches longer than your canvas.

  10. Small p7210764

Center the diamond on the embroidery thread and fold it over, which should form a cute little flag-shaped like a triangle.

  11. Small p7210765

    Repeat. :)

  12. Small p7210766

Glue the top edge of each flag in place on the canvas, making sure that you're keeping the exposed embroidery thread fairly tight.

  13. Small p7210772

Glue or tape the tails of the embroidery thread to the back of the canvas. Let the games begin!
