About

This is a Christmas gift for my sister inspired by an armoire of our grandmother's that she has.

You Will Need (9 things)

  • Matchbox
  • Material to line it with
  • Material to cover it with
  • 2 fairly large Bead Caps
  • 4 fairly small Bead(s)
  • Beading Wire
  • Acrylic Paint (optional)
  • Stamp Pads (optional)
  • short piece of Cord

Steps (15 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

You'll want to start by cutting the sleeve to your matchbox in half

  2. 2

I covered each side individually with paper, then folded in the end so it could only open from the middle.

  3. 3

I leave one side longer to folks over because I think it looks cleaner.

  4. 4

If you used plain paper to cover and you want the look this one has, start by drybrushing acrylic around the edges

  5. 5

Then use direct-to-paper method (putting spongy part with ink directly on project instead of using a stamp as intermediary) with one stamp pad (I used yellow)

  6. 6

Use a second stamp pad of a different color in the same method once that is dry. (I used brown,)

  7. 7

Line the inside drawer piece. The easiest way to do this is trace around it and put a rectangle that is the depth of each side out from each side of your tracing. It ends up looking like a bigger rectangle with squares cut from the corners.

  8. 8

Once everything is covered and dry, you'll want to make complimentary holes on each side of the outside of your box.

  9. 9

Take a piece of wire and fold it in half, and place one of your small beads at the half

  10. 10

Assemble your box and then pull the bead/wire from the inside out

  11. 11

Repeat the last two steps on the other side (it is better to do this while it's assembled so that you don't catch the inside bead when trying to put the drawer in, then the bread also holds the pieces together afterward too)

  12. 12

Tie a knot at the end of your cord and last it between the two wires on one side

  13. 13

Run the wire up through the bead cap and small beads, then back down through the bead cap so you can tie a knot underneath it

  14. 14

Repeat step 13 on the other side

  15. 15

You should now be able to make a figure 8 with the cord to close it like an envelope.
