I wanted something quick and comfy to throw on for work, but didn't want it to be plain. I use the main body for the dress, then the sleeves turned into the stripes on the dress.

Take a turtleneck and cut the sleeves off, then cut them into strips of varying lengths and widths. For the body, I just put a knit dress I have and traced the outline. I was able to use the hem of the original shirt so if you can do that you can save yourself having to hem the bottom edge.

Pin the strips into place on right side of the fabric. One they are pinned, cut off the excess so that the strips are even with the sides. Do a single stitch through the middle of each strip, overlapping back and forth until all strips are sewn on.

With right sides together, sew up sides, and finish armholes.
