You Will Need (2 things)
- Sewing Machine / Needle & Thread
- 4 Men's Dress Shirt
Steps (8 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
Cut shirt across the chest, directly under the armpits.
(Can you see that stain on the upper right chest? Hubby was sad to lose a shirt, but I was excited to gain material for refashioning.)
-
2
Pleat to fit your waist. I created two pleats on each front panel....
-
3
and six across the back.
(1" pleats, spaced 2" apart).
-
4
Run a basting stitch across the top edge to hold the pleats in place.
-
5
If you need to take out excess fabric from the waist but don't want to go crazy with the pleats, take a bit from each side by pinning and stitching. This can also help take some poof out of the hip area.
-
6
Double turn top edge under and stitch again.
-
7
Add a snap as needed to keep the top of the placket closed.
-
8
And voila! As you can see, the buttons only extended so far down the shirt placket, so I stitched the bottom a little more closed.
