This recipe is our family's Christmas tradition! Every year my Grandma would bring this over on Christmas Eve. I didn't have her recipe, so I made up my own! Serve it with ketchup, chili sauce or even mustard. It also freezes well so you can make it ahead of time.

Description

This recipe is our family's Christmas tradition! Every year my Grandma would bring this over on Christmas Eve. I didn't have her recipe, so I made up my own! Serve it with ketchup, chili sauce or even mustard. It also freezes well so you can make it ahead of time.

Instructions

  1. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 233956 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b146

Assemble your ingredients. Grate up your carrots, dice your onions and celery. Peel the potatoes and boil them while you are cooking the ground beef. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 234244 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b150

In an electric frypan (or stovetop) brown the meat. Drain if necessary and then add onions, celery and carrots.

  3. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 234537 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b152

When the potatoes are done, mash them with a fork.

  4. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 234619 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b153

Start to add the beef broth and the potatoes a bit at a time. Just keep adding until you get a nice consistency. You will know when you have the right texture.

  5. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 234916 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b154

Time to season! Add salt and pepper to taste. The most important seasoning is dried sage. I usually use 2 teaspoons, but everyone is different. Add as much as you like!

  6. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 235135 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b155

Prepare your pie crust. I usually make my own. The best pie crust recipe I have found is on the Crisco box. The key to a nice flaky crust is not to play with it too much. You can also buy the your pie crust. Spoon in your meat mixture. Roll out another for the top.

  7. Small 110111 2f2015 07 26 235356 2014%2bchristmas%2bto%2b2015%2bsummer%2b159

Pinch the top crust and I always cut out air holes on the top crust for decoration. Bake until the meat pie is golden brown. Slice and enjoy!!!
