Matchbox Drawers

Store your craft minis

About

I had this idea for a long time in my head, and I thought it was really original, so I made one to store all my buttons and needles... to later find out it's been made by lots of people here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/matchboxdrawers/pool/
Anyways, I think there's no tut for this one here, so I'll go ahead and post my very first one... so be gentle!

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Matchbox
  • Glue
  • Embellishment(s) (beads, stickers, paint, decorated paper, etc)
  • Cardboard

Steps (3 steps, 5 minutes)

  1. 1

You can start by saving empty matchboxes until you have the number of drawers desired. Decide if you want your mini furniture to be double-row (as in my finished project, in this case you'll need an even number of boxes), single-row or triple-row (as showed on the flickr mentioned above).

  2. 2

Now take the inner part of the boxes and paint them or cover them in decorated paper, in my case I lined the interior with adhesive velvet. You can also add handles by sticking beads, buttons or similar small embelishments on the front of the box.

  3. 3

For the outer structure, line up all the exterior parts of the boxes and glue them together. Wrap them in some thin cardboard and paint the whole thing, or just use coloured cardboard to save time :)
Decorate with stickers or paint, put back in all the drawers, and you're done!
