I didn't use a pattern, but if you take a beret type hat pattern and keep increasing til it gets very large and then do decreases until it fits your head, then just sc around for the band for as wide as you need the face part to be. Felt shapes for the eyes and continued circles for the spots.
Sorry to vague, but this is just something that was in my head...lol
