I found this desk at a garage sale looking all lonely and forlorn. It was the perfect size for my 5 year old who is turning into quite the budding artist! I couldn't wait to get it home and re-vamp it so that he could put it to good use!

Description

I found this desk at a garage sale looking all lonely and forlorn. It was the perfect size for my 5 year old who is turning into quite the budding artist! I couldn't wait to get it home and re-vamp it so that he could put it to good use!

Instructions

  1. Small 109398 2f2015 06 19 062221 desk2

I gave the desk 3 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence. Once the paint was dry I applied 2 coats of Polyurethane.

Instead of painting the drawers the same, I decide to mod podge a map to the front. I applied the mod podge directly to the drawer front and then placed my map over top. Using a clean edged putty knife I smoothed the map out over top making sure there were no air bubbles.

Using my sanding block I gently sanded around the edge of the drawer. because the map was slightly wet due to the mod podge at the edges, the sanding block cleanly took the excess edge off of the drawer. I let the map dry and then applied 2 coats of mod podge over top and to the edges. Once that dried, I applied 2 coats of Polyurethane.

I spray painted the existing handles in a matte black and once dried added them back to the drawers.

Who knew such a simple side step like adding a map could make this desk look so great!
