A cute way to store make-up brushes!

About

I know there are some other make-up rolls on here, but they just weren't what I was looking to make, so I decided to make my own! I also made a matching cosmetic case out of the leftover fabric.

You Will Need (2 things)

  • Ribbon
  • Fabric

Steps (11 steps, 45 minutes)

  1. 1

To begin, decided how many brushes you'll need and how tall the highest one will be. I had just purchases a set of 12 brushes, plus I wanted to leave a little pocket for some of my shorter bare minerals brushes. You'll want the width to be large enough to hold all you're brushes, i believe mine was about 1/4 yard. For height, you'll need it to be at least twice as long as the tallest brush.

  2. 2

Cut a lining fabric of equal size. I sewed the bottoms together, but left the others open so the seams of the pocket wouldn't show through to my outer fabric.

  3. 3

I then made a bias tape. Pretty simple, just a matter of ironing the hems in place.

  4. 4

Fold up the bottom half to decide how high the pocket needs to come up the brushes. Pin only to the lining, letting the outer layer unfold so that it is out of the way, that way the seam of the pocket will only go through to the lining. This gets a bit tricky, but pinning is definitely the key to keeping all the layers in order.

  5. 5

Now put the brushes in the pocket to decide how big you want each of the pockets based on the size of the specific brush. I was running short on pins so I just put a little pencil mark where each pocket seam would go. For instance, an eyeshadow brush pocket would be smaller that a powder brush.

  6. 6

Sew straight lines, making sure the seam goes through only one layer of the outer fabric. I left a little bit of room on the top of the pockets to sew the bias tape on top of. Looking back, i probably should have sewn the bias tape on first and then sewn the pockets, but what can you do?

  7. 7

So the bias tape just goes right into place, sew a straight seam, making sure you don't accidently catch the lining fabric, or the pocket will be sewn shut!

  8. 8

Put the brushes in and make sure everything fits before moving on.

  9. 9

Now sew the other three sides up so all the sides are closed. If you chose, you can add a seam to the bottom fold, just to provide a little more stability.

  10. 10

This step could have been done with step 9 to avoid seeing the seam, but fold your ribbon in half and sew to the side. I went back and forth with the sewing machine a few times to make sure no seams would ever come undone. The ribbon has to be long enough to wrap around the roll and tie in a bow. I sewed mine on the side with the bigger brushes because I figured it would be easier to roll with the smaller brushes on the inside, big brushes on the outside.

  11. 11

Roll it up and tie the ribbon and you are all set! You know have a super cute way to store your brushes.
