I had no money and lots of pens, so used what I had lying around to create a funky pencil holder to go with my room and help keep it nice and tidy!!

  • Step 1

First of all you need to clean the jar thoroughly, and remove the label.

I did this by running the jar under hot water, then gradually peeling it off.

    Step 2

I realised that the jar was too tall for my pencils. So i stuffed some paper balls in the bottom to work as a booster!

    Step 3

I ripped out several cuttings from magazine. I went for lots of different colours and textures.

By ripping them out, it gives a nice uneven texture, and makes the design alot more quirky. I dipped each section in a pva glue / water mix (roughly 3:1), then laid each section on bit by bit.

I then covered the whole jar, leaving the bottom bare. This was so I could leave it to dry in the sunlight without damaging my rental property!!!

I also pasted some cuttings into the mouth of the jar, as I could see into it, and it looked a little odd!

    Step 5

Leave the jar to dry in a warm area. Once it was dry, I cut out some images i liked and glued them onto each side of the pot to make it extra personal!

And voila! Your pencils never looked snazzier!!
