I work in a school, and a teacher commented that she wanted to do a wall display about 'Cirque du Freak' a book by Darren Shan. She was going to put a big web in the corner as one of the character is a huge spider called Madam Octa. I immediately offered to make her a plushy Madam Octa to go with it. Here's the result. I would've loved to do this as a How To, but I botched the pattern and ended up making it up as I went along. Essentially though, the back and head are black fleece, and I've embroidered a red design on her back. The legs are filled with pipe cleaners to get that spidery bend to them. The face is done using 3D fabric paint. She's a good foot (12 inch) in size. I'm not sure I want to give her away now...
