This was my first real go at freehand machine embroidery, and I feel it went rather well. The colours and style are inspired by Mackintosh and Moorcroft Pottery. The Motif on the front is Mackintosh's Glasgow Rose.
This was my first real go at freehand machine embroidery, and I feel it went rather well. The colours and style are inspired by Mackintosh and Moorcroft Pottery. The Motif on the front is Mackintosh's Glasgow Rose.
Cut out 4 squares of blue fabric and 2 squares of lining fabric, all the same size, about 1/2inch bigger all round than you want your bag to be.
Back 3 of the blue panels with vilene, and embroider two of them with your design. I appliqued some shapes at this point too.
Take the square with the pattern for the front flap, and pin it right sides facing to the blue panel without vilene. Sew around 3 sides (the 2 sides and the bottom of the design). Turn inside (right way) out.
Sew the panel with the pattern for the back of the bag, right sides facing to the remaining square in the same way. Turn inside (right way) out.
Sew the flap to the back of the bag along the top with the patterns facing.
Sew the lining squares together along the sides and bottom, leaving a 4" gap along the bottom, again right sides facing.
Pin straps (I used ribbon) to the sides of the blue bag, and place the whole bag inside the lining bag. The lining bag should remain the way you sewed it. Sew around the top of the bags.
Pull the outer bag and the straps through the hole in the lining bag, hand sew the gap closed and push lining into the bag. Attatch magnetic buttons and you're done!
