Lighted Potpourri Jar

My mother used to have one of these that an aunt or neighbor or somebody had made for her, but I can't find it anywhere, and don't have the supplies (or funds to get the supplies) to make this project. So I cheated and made my image in Photoshop. Someday soon, though, I'll try to get my own images up here. These are great for Christmas gifts, or for yourself! The lights shining through the potpourri make great ambiance, and they heat up the potpourri just enough to have it give off a light scent. My instructions are for a Christmas/Winter Holiday-themed jar, but you could use different potpourri scents, ribbon, and decorations to match whatever theme you'd like to make, and have them up year-round!

You will need

Enough Potpourri to fill your jar Mason Jar(s) Ribbon or Taffeta Ribbon Ribbon or Taffeta Ribbon or Taffeta Ribbon or Taffeta Decorations such as a pinecone, gift tag, or other small ornament Small Strand Of Light(s) (about 35 lights should work) Doilies large enough to cover the top of your jar Doily large enough to cover the top of your jar

Instructions

1. Gather all materials. Make sure your light strand works, so you don't have to take everything all apart later on.

2. Put a thin layer of potpourri on the bottom of the jar to begin with and then start inserting the lights, layering them with potpourri as you go.

3. Once you get all of the lights in, leave the tail with the plug dangling out the top of the jar.

4. Place the doily on top of the jar (with the lights' tail still out the side) and secure with your ribbon/taffeta.

5. Get your pinecone, gift tag, small ornament, candy cane, or anything else you can think of to use for decoration and tie it to the ribbon with a bow. If you'd like to keep it simple, just tie a fancy bow, omitting the decoration.

6. Plug in the lights, let everything warm up, and enjoy! (As with any Christmas lights, make sure you unplug them when they're not under supervision.)
