The most fun you could ever have with Styrofoam. Also the messiest unfortunately! This project isn't too difficult but it takes patience to get it right. It's so much fun to run about as LEGO for the day! Give it a try!
First take the Styrofoam sheets and cut them into roughly the same size of circle. Draw the circle first with a paper template and then cut each individually. If you mess up at this stage, it's ok as the sandpaper can smooth out most of the mess. I used a Styrofoam cutter which I got from the home store. If you don't have one then just use a knife. Make sure the circles are big enough for your head!
Then cut out the middle part of your head. Leave the last Foam sheet with no hole for the top. I used one of the inside sections as my top part of my head. For this part I had to use the knife to cut out the sections. At this part it gets easier. Glue the parts together and then cut out an eye hole for yourself! First put it on and then get a friend to help you mark out where your eye is! Because LEGO is so big, I only had one eye hole! It was pretty difficult to see but I wanted maximum impact so it had to be that way!
Once you have glued the parts together sand them down with sandpaper. It takes a long time and it's pretty messy but worth the effort. Your room will be covered with white dust. You may want to wear a mask for this part. Then spray paint the head with yellow water based acrylic spray paint (so it doesn't melt the foam!) and leave to dry. I coated mine twice. Then add black card cut outs for the eyes and mouth and you are done with the main part! For the body I just adapted a cardboard box, spray painted it red and used yellow gloves for the hands. I didn't make the legs as I wanted to move about so I used blue jeans that I had. Worked really well. Really effective and simple costume to make for Halloween! Doesn't cost too much either. Had so much fun testing this out.
