We've been giving our office a crafty makeover recently and our computer screens were looking a bit boring. I had the awesome idea to give them a Lego frame, so we could decorate them with MiniFigures and easily change them up anytime we feel like it.

Description

We've been giving our office a crafty makeover recently and our computer screens were looking a bit boring. I had the awesome idea to give them a Lego frame, so we could decorate them with MiniFigures and easily change them up anytime we feel like it.

Instructions

  1. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 144935 img 5052

Start by taking down the measurements of your computer screen. You'll want to know how tall and wide it is, as well as how wide the lip is. Compare these measurements to the width of a Lego brick to work out which brick style you want and how many you need.

  2. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145147 img 5026

Go to a Lego store, or order online, and get all of the bricks you need.

  3. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145215 img 5036

We were able to fill a tall cup with all the bricks we needed for two screens plus lots of small extra ones to decorate them with for £11.99 at the Lego pick n mix.

  4. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145051 img 5053

Using thick white card, measure and cut a backing frame for your screen.

  5. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145335 img 5054

Cut out any holes you need for buttons / web cams etc.

  6. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145419 img 5055

Lay your frame down and gather your lego.

  7. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145437 img 5057

Lay out the bricks on top of your template.

  8. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145459 img 5061

I placed long strips of lego on top of my frame to reinforce the bricks while I was building and stop it from falling apart.

  9. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145546 img 5063

When you're happy with your design. Glue the Lego to the backing frame.

  10. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 145605 img 5066

Leave to dry before using a cutting knife to cut off any excess frame that sticks out.

  11. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 150525 img 5158

Attach your frame to your computer. I used sticky decoupage squares but you could use hot glue or even Sugru to attach it.

  12. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 150531 img 5159

When, you're happy that it's all secure, remove the cladding Lego which was reinforcing it.

  13. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 150611 img 5162

Now you get to have some fun and decorate your frame anyway you like. I made my name out of bricks.

  14. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 150638 img 5173

I added a Uni-Kitty minifigure to give me blasts of positivity when I need it.

  15. Small 108453 2f2015 04 11 150654 img 5191

I also made a MiniFigure of myself holding a camera to hold my camera connector cable.

I made new buttons for my screen by attaching Lego blocks to decoupage squares and sticking them over the existing buttons. I really want to link the Pizza button up to a take-out website.
