Led Light Up Earrings!?

Put some strobes on your lobes!

Have you ever thought, "Jeez, I need some jewelry with electrical components"? Because I sure have. No? Just me? Alright.

Light up the party (or just your earlobes) with these epic earrings! Who needs a strobe light when you already have a disco party goin' on at each side of your head? No one, that's who. Now go make these to impress your friends with your nerdy-like circuit skills!

But seriously, they're ridiculously easy. So go make these. Like now.

(and i wanna see your versions! Don't be afraid to improve on these, i was honestly making this up as I went, and you people probably know more than me about this kind of thing)

UPDATE: If you're worried that these aren't safe, I'd just like to tell you that I've been wearing these for almost a week and hey, I'm still here! xD
But, if it's really bothering you, you can figure out a way to hook up the circuit outside of your ear-hole. Do the how-to and just attach it to an existing earring and you're all set.
To everyone else, thanks for the comments and favourites! :)

You Will Need (3 things)

  • Tape (scotch tape, electrical tape, duct tape, whatever.)
  • 2 Earring Backs
  • Led Light s With Batteries (Mine came from a toy)

Steps (13 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

Get your LED lights - I got these little "finger lights" from Dollarama.

They came with four different-coloured lights in a little plastic bit that you're supposed to put over your fingers so you can pretend you have awesome finger-laser superpowers. Because that's what everyone wants, right? I do...

I got two so I could have matching pairs.

  2. 2

A closer look at the label...

  3. 3

Take 'em out and break 'em open!

But seriously, plastic will go flying EVERYWHERE. Put some safety glasses on. Think you'll look stupid? You'll look worse if you don't...

... Get it? Like, you won't be able to see? "Look worse"? ah, nevermind. Just be careful with this part.

If you already have LED lights, then don't worry about this, obviously.

  4. 4

Split it open and rip its guts out!

  5. 5

You should end up with this stuff!

-A metal bit that (used to be) attached to the switch,

-An LED with two wires poking out of it, and

-3 tiny batteries (i don't know what kind, sorry)

  6. 6

Bend the light so it looks like this.

One wire was longer than the other on the LED.

You'll be putting the shorter end in your ear-hole. Pierced bit. Earring place. Lobe-hole. You know what I mean. xD

  7. 7

Line up the batteries and tape them together (keep them in order; don't attatch a negative end to another negative end!)

Remember to keep the batteries tightly together, and don't cover the top and bottom, so it doesn't screw up your circuit.

  8. 8

They should look like this now.

  9. 9

Test which way your batteries work.

What I mean by this is, the positive/negative ends might be connected to the wrong wires.

Flip it over and connect them with your fingers until you find the correct way.

  10. 10

... And tape the battery "pack" to the bottom, longer wire. Make sure the wire is tight and connected properly to the battery.

From here on in, keep checking that the light still works by pressing the wires to the battery.

  11. 11

Add some more tape to the wire around it to keep it in the right spot.

If you think that battery bit is too ugly, wrap it in ribbon or something. cover it up with another sort of dangly bit. Get creative.

And what's this? BOOM! You're pretty much done, honey.

  12. 12

Now, since this stuff came from the depths of hell (factory in China) itself, carefully clean the short wire with some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.

I shouldn't need to say this, but be careful not to get any rubbing alcohol on the batteries.
And please don't wear this on a rainy day. You won't get electrocuted (much?), but they'll probably break. And you don't want that, do you?

  13. 13

Stick it in your ear-hole (I'm gonna keep calling it ear-hole, okay? deal with it), and pinch the wire to touch the battery to turn it on!

Looks awesome, doesn't it? Or am I just being conceited? xD

If you think it's gonna fall out, put a backing on it. I have no idea if it'll break the circuit, but mine turned out okay.

Now go party with your earlobes!!! :D
