Description

I got this idea from looking and going into all these different craft stores and I found stuff that was very beautiful but on a budget and being the thrifty person that I am I decided to make my own Leather Tree!!

Instructions

  1. Items you will need for this project: 1 Paper Mache Cone (looks like a Christmas Tree shape) 1 Bag of Leather. I gabbed 2lbs of Leather Scrap Hot glue gun Glue sticks Scissors

  2. You will start off covering the bottom of the base of the tree. I cut a strip wide enough to glue the base and have extra left over to trim it. I also folded over the end to make a clean line. You would want to do this step before you start the main part of the tree. You can also paint it to a color you would like. I like a clean finish so I covered it with the leather.

  3. Now that we have completed the base of the leather tree. We will start working on the main part of the tree. You will first cut strips of the leather about 1" to 1 1/2" inches thick. You will fold the leather in half and cut half moon shapes how ever big you would like them to be. They will basically end up looking like little leather shaped leaves. This will take the majority of your time. So if you can multi-task you can do this while watching a show and drinking some coffee. You will need large, medium, and small sizes. Large for the bottom area, medium for the middle area and small towards the top and top. You will also need to cut a small circle to cover the very top of the tree.

  4. So as you can see above you will layer each row of the leather. You will overlap each piece of leather a little bit. You of course will use your hot glue gone for this. With the scrap leather every piece is different. You will not always get the same pieces in your pack. It is ok. It will mean you can let your creative side fly. The leather does curl sometimes which is great because it just gives more of the Christmas Tree look. I had fun creating this tree my Friends!! I cannot wait to complete another one so I can have a set that will last and put on my mantel and add this classic piece to my other Christmas decorations.
