I had to get a Ti-89 for my pre-calculus class and the thing was so huge it didn't fit in my pencil bag! So I had to make another. I scoured the internet for a style that would accommodate the monster and finally found this one at craftpassion.com. But I wanted to make it my own, so I added the lattice fabric manipulation. PRINT THE PATTERN AND CUT OUT. Go to http://www.craftpassion.com/2012/08/zipper-pencil-case.html/2 and print the pdf pattern.
OPTIONAL. I shrunk the pattern by drawing another line 2 cm from the edge and cutting around the already included seam allowance because it was a little too big for me. But you can leave it as is. The dimensions of the original are on the website. I also wanted the sides to be straight instead of slightly triangular so i made the gusset straight.
CUT OUTER FABRIC FOR THE LATTICE. I measured the basic dimensions of the pattern including seam allowances on all sides and doubled it. It you wanted both the front and the back to have the lattice pattern, just quadruple the height measurement. Cut this rectangle out.
CREATE A GRID. (If you have a cutting mat with measurement lines, you can skip this step.) Take a piece of graph paper and draw a grid of 1 inch squares. On my paper, that was about four rows of squares. You can do another 3 sheets and tape them together to fit the fabric, but i just did one and moved my paper around underneath.
DRAW THE DIAGONAL GRID LINES. Starting from the top left corner, draw a diagonal line connecting the top left corner and bottom right corner corner of the first square. Skip the next square and repeat. Continue drawing diagonal lines in this fashion skipping every other square until you have completed the column
DRAW DIAGONALS ON THE NEXT COLUMN. On the next column, skip the first square and on the next one, draw a diagonal starting from the TOP RIGHT corner and drawing a line connecting it to the BOTTOM LEFT corner. Skip the next square and repeat. Continue down the column skipping every other square until you reach the end.
COMPLETE THE DIAGONALS. Now you are going to alternate between the downward diagonals and the upward diagonals for the next columns starting with the downward diagonals. It should look like this when you are finished.
TRACE THE GRID ONTO THE BACK OF YOUR OUTER FABRIC. Using a fabric chalk or pencil, trace the diagonal lines.
SEW THE FABRIC MANIPULATION PATTERN. Using a needle and thread, sew the two points of the diagonal together, securing each diagonal. it will take a few columns before you see the pattern begin to form. CUT OUT THE REST OF THE PATTERN. Using the pattern, cut out your interfacing, lining, and the rest of the outer fabric pieces.
IRON THE LATTICE FABRIC AND IRON THE INTERFACING TO IT. Take your manipulated fabric and iron it. Take the interfacing you cut out and iron it to the back, making sure to place it in the middle. Trim the extra outer fabric.

The only thing I didn't do is the piping, but you can do that.
