My buddy Seán (https://www.facebook.com/thatguywholovestheuniverse) has everything; hope, faith, a belief in a better world and has even written himself a book! This makes him one of those difficult people to buy a birthday present for. ..... . he's also the biggest Beyoncé fan I know! Whilst working in the same office with this free-loving, Beyoncé fanatic- I learnt a number of key phrases from the pop celeb who has seemingly passed me by. "I've been drinking...watermelon" has been a line of choice for over 8 months at work, unbeknown to me just how rude the line was has made the scenario rather comical. That being said, the only and greatest thing I could make such a wonderful human for his birthday was this slice of watermelon.

The Pattern: Follow Dilys Sutherland's Watermelon Slice Dishcloth pattern (also below) http://blossomknitwear.yolasite.com/watermelon-slice-dishcloth.php Using Yarn A; cast on 4 stitches, and knit these stitches. Row 1: knit into front and back of each stitch. (8 st) Row 2, and all evenly numbered rows: knit Row 3: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k1. Repeat from * to end of row. (12 st) Row 5: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k2. Repeat from * to end of row. (16 st) Row 7: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k3. Repeat from * to end of row. (20 st) Row 9: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k4. Repeat from * to end of row. (24 st) Row 11: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k5. Repeat from * to end of row. (28 st) Row 13: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k6. Repeat from * to end of row. (32 st) Row 15: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k7. Repeat from * to end of row. (36 st) Row 17: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k8. Repeat from * to end of row. (40 st) Row 19: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k9. Repeat from * to end of row. (44 st) Row 21: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k10. Repeat from * to end of row. (48 st) Row 23: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k11. Repeat from * to end of row. (52 st) Row 25: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k12. Repeat from * to end of row. (56 st) Row 26: knit. Break A and join B Row 27: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k13. Repeat from * to end of row. (60 st) Row 28: knit Break B and joir C Row 29: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k14. Repeat from * to end of row. (64 st) Row 30: knit Row 31: *knit into front and back of next stitch, k15. Repeat from * to end of row. (68 st) Cast off With RS facing; use yarn D and sewing needle to embroider seeds over the red section of the piece. Fold the piece in half WS facing and measure the length of the Green edge (approx 5"). Use this measurement to create the gusset. Gusset: Cast On 6 stitches with C - measuring 1" Row 1: Sl1, K5 Row 2: Sl1, P5 Continue pattern from row 1 until the piece is the desired length.
Finishing: Lie the piece flat, WS facing and using sewing needle and green cotton, blanket stitch the first long edge of the gusset to the edge of the piece. Remember: for a tidy stitch and finished piece; stitch into the inside of the piece. Wrapping the piece around the gusset, continue to stitch the gusset in by sewing the first short edge of gusset to main piece, this will create a 'soft' corner to the slice. Changing to red cotton and sewing onto the WS of the slice (the inside) blanket stitch the red edges of the slice together. You will be left with the slice inside out WS facing and 2 edges of the gusset left to stitch in place. Change to green cotton and WS facing sew the remaining long edge of the gusset to the slice. Turn the piece RS facing and stuff the slice with toy stuffing, making sure to shape the corners as you go to keep the slice looking sharp. Don't over-stuff. Using green thread and with RS facing, sew the final short row of the gusset into place. If you spot errors please let me know!
