Penguin Books publishes the best introductions to reprinted books. I always appreciate their relevance and expertise over other books. Can you tell I love to read? So, for Cut Out + Keep's Nov '11 contest to win a copy of Keri Smith's "Finish This Book" published by Penguin Books, I knew I had to do a logo cozy! My family has shelf-fulls of books and both Barnes and Noble's nook and Amazon's Kindle, so I made this to fit all of them! I thought the process would be best to share so you can insert your favorite image on your own. Maker sure you're familiar with intarsia knitting when you cast on this project!

Instructions

  1. Small img 1927 1320207166

Print out your image and grab some graph paper. Put the image behind the graph paper to trace a pattern.

  2. Small img 1929 1320207210

In pencil, mark the boxes that are mostly filled with the main color.

  3. Small img 1932 1320207303

Use different markers or symbols on your chart for each yarn color. Download this chart in this tutorial's attachments. It's a bit different from the one I used to knit the pictured cozy, but there's no perfect chart. Just go with what looks good to you.

  4. Small img 1904 1320207372

Knit a swatch to determine the number of stitches (width) and rows (height) needed to snuggle your reading material. I knitted this cover with worsted weight yarn and 3.25 mm needles (I knit super loosely) and added two stitches to the L and R and 4 rows to the top and bottom of the chart. It fits the devices loosely.

  5. Small img 1924 1320207446

Knit the front panel bottom-up, then slip the last row onto some extra yarn. Knit a plain white panel of the same size, and slip the stitches onto another bit of yarn.

  6. Small img 1913 1320207685

Sew together the bottom (inside-out) and sides (right-side-out). Refer to a knitting reference for how to sew ladders together.

  7. Knit a 2 knit - 2 purl rib for several rows until you reach your desired height. I did about 5. Bind off, sew in ends, and snuggle your devices immediately!
