This lace cowl is knit in the round, bottom up. There are two sizes: the medium (shown) provides minimal drape and can barely be wrapped twice around your neck. The large is 30 stitches longer, has a lot of drape, and can be easily wrapped around your neck. You will need one skein for the med, and two for a large. This pattern uses a bulky thick-thin yarn. Since Kochoran has been discontinued (sob) you could use Billow by Knitpicks or any other bulky thick-thin yarn. Terms Used -Stretchy cast on (long tail/crochet/or your favorite stretchy) -Knit -Yarn Over (same as Yarn Forward) -K2tog

Instructions

  1. You knit this in the round from bottom up. 1) Cast on 84 (112) stitches using a long tail or crochet cast on, or any other cast on that results in a stretchy edge. Place marker, and join in the round in your preferred method. 2) Knit one round 3) Repeat these four rounds. Round 1: *(K2, YO)* (*repeat from * until end of round) Round 2: Knit all stitches Round 3: *(K2tog, K1)* (*repeat from * until end of round) Round 4: Knit all stitches Repeat round 1-4 until cowl is as tall as you like. I repeated them 8 times. 4) After ending on a round four, knit one more round, and bind off in your preferred method. I blocked my cowl (it was wool) to make the edges not curl. Block if needed, then wear, gift or sell.
