Testing my techniques I decided to make a knitted cover for my iPad ... really happy how it turned out! The piece is made in one strip, starting at the ribbed edge of the front, moving around and then making its way up the back

Description

Testing my techniques I decided to make a knitted cover for my iPad ... really happy how it turned out! The piece is made in one strip, starting at the ribbed edge of the front, moving around and then making its way up the back

Instructions

  1. Front: CO 28 stitches In A rib stitch (k1,p1) until the piece measures 1inch. Finish with WS facing at the start of your next row; cut A. The rest of the pattern will follow using yarn B; in the photo I changed colours randomly to practise. If you’re planning to change yarn throughout, make sure you break yarn at the end of a full cycle of the following Using B start the Checkerboard Stitch: Row 1 K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end. Row 2 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. Row 3 K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end. Row 4 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. Row 5 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. Row 6 K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end. Row 7 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. Row 8 K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end. Repeat these 8 rows until the whole time piece measures 10″. To make the back and sides of the piece: Row 1 cast on 4, K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end, cast on 4 Row 2 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. Continue the piece in the checkerboard stitch (below) until the back measures 9″ (the entire piece measuring 19″ when flat)

  2. Back: Row 1 cast on 4, K4, *p4, k4; rep from * to end, cast on 4 Row 2 P4, *k4, p4; rep from * to end. With wrong side facing, switch to A and rib stitch (k1,p1) the final inch of the piece. Finishing: With the piece filed in half and WS facing (inside out) use the mattress stretch to stitch sides together. I used the additional 4 stitches each side of the bottom row to create the corners.

  3. Flower (optional): Finally I added a 4 petal flower and button to the front for detail.
