Instructions

    Front and back (make 2) Using yarn A, cast on 48 sts. Starting with a RS row, work 6 rows in st st. Start chart (see page 83), working RS rows in knit, WS rows in purl and the motifs in intarsia. Row 7 (RS): k10, work chart row 1, k10. Row 8: p10, work chart row 2, p10. Continue to follow chart in st st until 25 rows have 
been worked. Work 7 rows in st st, starting with a p row. Change to yarn C. Knit 5 rows.

    Making up Press pieces under a dry cloth. Using yarn C, embroider the top of the motif in chain stitch to form the butterfly’s antennae, and using yarn B make French knots at the top of the antennae. Sew the small sequins onto the wings using matching sewing thread, and seven large sequins across each side of the top of the bag, using a single thread of yarn C to attach them. Pin the bottom of the bag right sides together and sew the seam using backstitch. Then sew the side seams using mattress stitch. Make and fit the lining, and fit the magne tic closure.

    Cast off. strap Cut 18 strands of yarn C, each 40cm (16in) long. Separate into three groups of six strands and braid to form a strap. Make a knot at each end and attach the strap to the outside top of the bag at either side using yarn C.
