Making this for a friends baby. She's not due till April so I can figure I have plenty of time. I may actually finish it by then. I've never met a a baby who didn't like a knit blankie. My son loved his, we used to drape it over his car seat when he was all tiny, it made the light come in funny from the holes and he used sit there sticking his fingers and toes through as many holes as he could. Plus its a fun texture for them to explore. This ones a simple lace pattern with scalloped edges. If you have any questions. Cast on 217 stitches.
Knit 6 rows.
(Pattern starts here) Knit 4, Yarn Over, Knit 3, Slip stitch one, Knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over, knit 3, Yarn over, knit 1. Repeat from first yarn over until the last 3 stitches, knit the last 3. If you're more used to following a knitting pattern there's this: (K4. *yo. K3. Sl1K. K2tog. psso. K3. yo. K1. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.) It think there's an issue with the pattern I was using (or I just can't count) but it doesn't exactly come out even on the end. I decided to end the pattern on on the k2tog. psso, k3 Yo, and then k3. If there's an issue with how many stitches there are I've just been increasing with a yo or decreasing it with k2tog until everything comes out evenly at the end. It may take a couple of rows of the pattern to get it worked out, and you can barely tell later on.
I also found out that if you're having issues remembering the pattern, and this only works if you have enough knitted that you can see what the pattern looks like for sure. I've figured out that thinking of it in 3 stitches repeated over and over. After the initial k4, yo. You can count it in 3's. k3 (duh 3) then ss1, k2tog, psso (3 steps) k3 again then yo, k1, yo (3 steps)
After 1 row of the pattern, purl one entire row.
Repeat another row of the pattern
Knit the entire row. Then start it all back over again. I changed colors every 12 rows. So now its stripey wooo!
I started of with 4 skeins all together, and it's really up to you how long you want to make it. I'm planning on using all 4 skeins. the finished size is pretty wide, and it'll be better if it's longer (I think anyway)
Last step being to knit 6 rows and then cast-off. I, myself haven't even gotten to this part yet. It's taking me forever, I think I've been working on it off an on for a good month or so. I'm also a slow knitter because I don't have that much experience yet.
Just to sum it all up, and maybe make it a little bit easier to understand or follow or at least copy down. Cast on 217 sts. Knit 6 rows. Proceed in pat as follows: 1st row: (RS). K4. *yo. K3. Sl1K. K2tog. psso. K3. yo. K1. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3. 2nd row: K3. Purl to last 3 sts. K3. 3rd row: As 1st row. 4th row: Knit. These 4 rows form pat. Cont in pat until work from beg measures a desire length. Knit 6 rows. Cast off knitwise.
