Description

Made this for the kindle i've bought the other half for xmas. Looked at buying him one, but then saw they were £25, and knew i could make one easily enough for a LOT less!!

Instructions

  1. Small dsc00871 1323272765

Take your kindle and draw around it on to some card (i used the amazon box it arrived in!) and cut out. Use this one to do another piece of card the same.

  2. Small dsc00872 1323272854

Using the card as your template, draw around on to the reverse of your fabric, leaving the width of the kindle and card inbetween the 2 rectangles. (this bit will be the 'spine' of the case)

  3. Small dsc00873 1323273071

Now, lay the kindle on the fabric, and using the kindle as a guide, mark where you want the elastic to hold it in place.

  4. Small dsc00874 1323273219

Now copy your pattern on to the reverse side of what will be your lining.

  5. Small dsc00875 1323273331

Now find the middle, where you want to put the magnetic clasp and mark it on the fabric...

  6. Small dsc00876 1323273441

    and attach it on.

  7. Small dsc00877 1323273535

Now you need to make sure the piece with the other side of the clasp on will fit over eveything. Place both pieces of card and the kindle on the fabric, and mark the line where it'll be sewn to the back of the cover. now wrap over and mark where the other piece of the magnetic clasp will go when closed.

  8. Small dsc00878 1323273650

Draw out on to the fabric, then again on the reverse of the lining.

  9. Small dsc00879 1323273750

Sew right sides together, turn through, and attach the magnetic clasp.

  10. Small dsc00880 1323274087

At this point i decided to cut down the middle of lining piece, as i wanted the spine to be where the seams were shut. (if you get me, i can't seem to explain it very well!) Now take the back piece, and one of the lining pieces (the one to line the front of cover) and pin them right sides together, and starting at the top, sew around 3 edges.

  11. Small dsc00881 1323274168

Now, on this back piece you'll need to sew in the tab that will close the cover. Make sure you have it pinned the right way. It needs the fabric to match like in the picture <----- also it'll seem like your about to sew it inside, but once you turn it through it's ok...don't sew yet though!!

  12. Small dsc00882 1323274474

Now before you sew around the edge, you need to cut the elastic and place it in the middle of your two pieces of fabric (where you marked) Now starting at the top, sew around the 3 sides

  13. Small dsc00883 1323274686

(it should look like this after sewing 2 sides and turning through)

  14. Small dsc00884 1323274743

and once turned through, should look like this!

  15. Small dsc00885 1323274911

Now place the card in to the pockets and glue the elastic behind the card.

  16. Small dsc00887 1323274986

Now take a thin strip of the cover fabric, and sew it over the 2 pocket openings. Now you're done!
