I made this jewelry box for a coworkers daughter for her birthday. I bought a plain wooden jewelry box, stained it with wood stain and painted it with acrylic paints after I sketched out the initial designs in pencil on the box. I sealed it with a polyurethane sealer. As a little something extra, I took some soft material I had left over from my Halloween costume and I cut it to size and lined the inside of the jewelry box by hot gluing it to the inner walls. I used reference photos I found online to pull ideas from for the designs on the box.
