You Will Need (4 things)

  • Iron (set on silk setting or follow instructions on the adhesive packaging)
  • Fabric or Felt scraps
  • Iron-on Adhesive (you can get this from any fabric store)
  • Scissors

Steps (9 steps, 40 minutes)

  1. 1

Come up with a design and cut it out of the fabric. You can use different colors and textures in your design.

  2. 2

Lay the fabric pieces upside down on an ironing board. Make sure to cover the ironing board with paper or foil to protect the surface. The adhesive can get sticky!

  3. 3

Cut a piece of the iron-on adhesive for each piece of fabric. Cut the pieces a little larger than the fabric pieces just to make sure the entire backside of each fabric piece is covered.

  4. 4

Lay the adhesive on top of the fabric, paper side up.

  5. 5

Place a piece of paper on top of the whole thing or you’ll get sticky stuff on your iron.

  6. 6

Iron the adhesive onto the backs of all your fabric pieces. It won’t take long!

  7. 7

If you are using only one piece of fabric, you can cut the adhesive out around your fabric design. Leave the paper backing on and you can give the iron-on patch to your friends to iron onto their own clothes!

  8. 8

If you have more than one piece of fabric in your design, cut the adhesive out around each separate piece. Pull the paper backing off only on the parts of the fabric that will overlap the other pieces. If you pull the paper off the bottom piece of fabric then you might end up ironing the patch to your scrap paper or ironing board.

  9. 9

You can give the patch away as is or iron straight onto your clothes!
