You can omit the fruit to make a plain loaf.
You can use any dried fruit you like.
Heat oven 425/220 degrees
Mix 4 cup flour, sugar, salt & Bicarb together.
Rub in the butter.
Add the raisins.
Make a well in the centre, pour in the egg & buttermilk.
Mix to form a soft sticky dough.
Shape into a circle.
Cut a cross shape into the top of the dough.
Bake for 40 mins.
