this is my first (finished) attempt at doing book binding. it came out a little sloppy, but i'm pleased! on my next tutorial i'll add pictures heh. feel free to message me with any questions or comments

NOTE: my book is the size of computer paper, so if you want something smaller/bigger you'll need to adjust this tutorial to fit your needs

  • Step 1

    001. measure out the dimensions of your covers

NOTE: i didn't use a spine, but this is optional, and adding one is easy to do

  • Step 2

    002. use an x-acto knife or box cutter and cut out your front and back covers

  • Step 3

    003. lay your covers on your paper or fabric, cut off all four corners

  • Step 4

    004. using your spray adhesive carefully, attach the paper/fabric to your cardboard pieces

  • Step 5

    005. use the spray adhesive again to attach your end papers

  • Step 6

    006. line up your covers and papers the way you want them and use your binder clamps to secure them

  • Step 7

    007. take a nail and hammer and on a safe surface hammer through the covers and paper to make holes for your twine or ribbon (it's very important they line up properly)

  • Step 8

    008. thread your twine or ribbon through and knot it and you're done!
    :]

NOTE: i reinforced my knot a little bit with a dab of elmer's glue

I love your cover, and thank you so much! I wanted to make my own back-to-school notebooks and now I know how! I hope they're really durable. Could you message me and tell me what kind of material you used for your cover? Like was it leather or something special like that?
