If you've ever experienced the frustration of your jewellery breaking, chances are it's because of a poorly closed jump ring. Once you master how to open and close them correctly, your jewellery will not only have a professional finish but it will be strong and secure too.
If you've ever experienced the frustration of your jewellery breaking, chances are it's because of a poorly closed jump ring. Once you master how to open and close them correctly, your jewellery will not only have a professional finish but it will be strong and secure too.
Pick up the jump ring with the opening at the top.
Using a pair of chain nose pliers in each hand, grip the jump ring between 2 and 3 o’clock on the right hand side and between 9 and 10 o’clock on the left.
To open the jump ring, move one hand towards you and the other away from you (as if you were opening a door). Add your component.
To close the jump ring, do the reverse but as you come back towards the centre, push each side in slightly. Go backwards and forwards once or twice past the centre point, still pushing inwards until you hear the jump ring “click”. This is when you will know that the jump ring is properly tensioned.
Check the opening at the top and keep adjusting it back and forth until it is properly aligned.
