Description

You've probably seen t-shirt yarn, yarn made from strips of fabric. In the same way you can make yarn from umbrella cloth!

Instructions

  1. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211408 img 5883

Pick an umbrella with pretty fabric.

  2. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211430 img 5885

With my umbrella, the fabric was fastened to the frame with thread. Try to cut it loose without making a hole in the fabric. In the middle of the fabric, just cut around the top of the umbrella, leaving a hole. Cut off the little 'clasp' with velcro too.

  3. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211641 img 5888

Start cutting the fabric in one of the corners.

  4. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211701 img 5889

Cut one long strip of about 2cm in width.

  5. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211731 img 5891

The seams of the umbrella might loosen when you're cutting the fabric. Don't worry about them unless the fabric actually breaks. In that case, sew it up with just a few stitches. You won't see it when you crochet or knit with it.

  6. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211847 img 5892

    Keep going..

  7. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 211911 img 5913

..until you've cut all of the fabric and wound it into a ball!

  8. Small 106241 2f2014 12 11 212044 img 6019

Now you can start crocheting or knitting with it!
