How To Glue Latex

Obsessed with latex like me?!

i searched around the site for how-to´s but can´t find any so i decided to share my experiences. i don´t know if this technique is the most effective and conventional but maybe someone can use it... i wanted the seams to look like sewed together right side on right side, but you can also do it right side on left side, it´s probably easier i think... Description

i searched around the site for how-to´s but can´t find any so i decided to share my experiences. i don´t know if this technique is the most effective and conventional but maybe someone can use it... i wanted the seams to look like sewed together right side on right side, but you can also do it right side on left side, it´s probably easier i think... Instructions

  1. Small img 0381 1264260374

Firstly, cut out your favored pieces. i taped my pattern onto the latex and used an overhead marker to mark the seam allowances. i set 1cm seam allowance for the glue.

  2. Small img 0382 1264260508

After cutting your pieces grab your cleaning solvent and a piece of cloth to clean the area where the seam should be (on the right side of the latex). i always wear a rubber glove because i don´t like to have these chemicals on my skin. It can be a bit wavy because the latex soak up the cleaning. Wait some minutes and the waves will fade away.

  3. Small img 0386 1264260636

Now i mask the seam allowance with tape to have an even and exact stripe for the glue. You can skip this step and apply the glue freehand.

Now grab a q tip, dip it in your glue and smear it smoothly on your latex. if you have glue with dissolver you have to work quickly because it will dry in some seconds. glue with ammonia will dry moderately.

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 with the other piece of latex.

  6. Small img 0392 1265838128

When everything is dried you can glue the pieces together! Lay the seams on top of each other, glued sides facing, adjust them and press smoothly with your fingers. If something´s wrong, now it´s the last chance to correct! be careful not to stretch the latex!

  7. Small img 0393 1264699119

Now, if everything is in place, roll over the seam with a glass or a seam roller with pressure.

  8. Small img 0394 1265838282

Now apply some glue to one side of the internal seam allowance and one side of the latex piece (the sides have to face each other). Glue them together and roll over with the glas.

  9. Small img 0410 1265838887

Now cut a strip out of your latex. Mine is 1cm (width of your seam allowance). Apply some glue to the backside of your glued seam allowance and to one side of the strip. Glue it together. This strip gives your seam more strength and waves will get flat.

  10. you can probably do all these steps one after another, but i like to wait 24h after step 7, 24h after step 8 and after step 9 another 24h. the glue needs this time to "bond" the latex together. you can probably do all the steps without waiting but then it can happen that the pieces come unglued
