How To Clean Your Macbook (Or Laptop) Keyboard

Sweet and Simple

My macbook keyboard was filthy. I looked up blogs online and it went on about using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and I didn't want to go industrial strength with my computer so I made use of what was laying around.

This is really simple and straightforward. Something you can definitely do in your spare time.

If you've never cleaned your keyboard before, then I suggest you do this once and repeat again a few days later to get any extra dirty spots.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • 2 Paper Towels
  • Water
  • Windex
  • 10 Q Tips

Steps (4 steps, 10 minutes)

  1. 1

You should turn off your computer or laptop before starting.

Take your paper towel, fold it in half. Spray the center with Windex or water so that it is slightly damp.

Fold the paper again so the damp spot is on an edge.

Slide that edge through the gaps in your keyboard. It will pick up some of the dirt but not all of it. You don't have to be too picky because you will go through again with the Q-tips.

Now gently wipe the keyboard keys with the napkin with a little more cleaning solution if you need it.

NEVER spray directly onto your computer! Always spray onto the cleaning cloth or napkin and use that to clean electronics!

  2. 2

Take a cotton swab and dampen it with water or Windex. Make sure that it is not so wet that it drips.

Now gently go around every key. If the dust and grime doesn't come off with the first swipe, go ahead and go over it. A few swipes should be enough.

The Q-tip will quickly get dirty so don't be afraid to get another one. Otherwise you'll just be pushing dirt around instead of picking it up!

  3. 3

You can clean the key pads and track pad button with a Q-tip and Windex as well.

  4. 4

Get another paper towel and wipe everything gently again. Try to get the corners where dirt may have been missed by the Q-tips.
