This is a tee that I made for my dads 60th birthday. He loves Tui beer (NZers know what Im on about) and the colours of their label are orange and yellow. He's always quoting "he's the master" lol... so I came up with this t-shirt which has a bit of a kungfu twist to it... Again I apologize for the lack of photos with the how to but I made this a while back and didnt take pix... If you dont have image editing software, just download and use Gimp Image Editor... its freeware and does the job.

Instructions

  1. Small dads tee 3 1307573334

Get a photo of a face and edit it using photoshop or other image editing software. You need to adjust the threshold so it ends up a plain black and white print. Erase any background images. Print it out.

  2. Trace the print out onto contact paper/duraseal and cut out a stencil of it using the craft knife and glass cutting board. (Glass gives it more crisper cut)

  3. Make the stripe stencils in the same manner. Also any font that you want to be on the shirt. (make a stencil for that too using contact paper)

  4. Peel the backing off the duraseal and place however you want on the tee. Put the Cardboard in the tee so no paint can bleed through to the back.

  5. First do the stripes, I used the same stencil over and over again, just alternate the colours (2 coats of fabric paing and drying with the hair dryer) as you go to complete an oval shape.

  6. Once the stripes are completed, add the face. Get your sponge brush and fabric paint and dab dab dab until its all covered. Dry using the hair dryer.

  7. Apply another coat and dry with hair dryer again, if you can still see any bits you've missed, apply another coat and dry.

  8. Slowly peel the contact paper off and give it another blast with the hair dryer.

  9. Repeat these steps to apply the writing. Once its all done and you're happy with it... continue..

  10. Turn your tee inside out and put it on the ironing board or place a paper inside it. Iron directly on the back of the print, you might notice some fumes coming up, but thats fine, keep ironing for about 1-2 minutes. This is to heatset the image so it doesnt wash out :)

    And your done :)
