Because I can!
Thought I'd try making a clutch with a strap and zipper.
Never worked with a zipper before...*yikes*

Used an old towel and an old hoodie sweater from the thrift store :)

  • How to make a clutch. Hippy Clutch Purse - Step 1
    Step 1

I created a basic pattern for the body of the clutch out of newspaper. Gathered my fabric, zipper, and other goodies needed.

    Step 2

Cut two pieces for outer body (Green); two pieces for lining (orange); and one piece for the strap.

Folded strap in half, and stitched up the middle.

Stitched bottom and sides of outer body, likewise for lining.

Stuffed lining inside of body inside out, pinned on the strap...stitched...and (whoops)...

    Step 3

Totally screwed up on the strap...should have stitched it with the handle facing OUT away from the body of the purse...and on the "inside" of the green...

So no strap (for now)...cut it off. Flipped purse right-side out.

Added zipper (struggled!!) OHMIGAWD I need practice.

I later added grommets and improvised on the strap. I cut it a little thinner, re-stitched down the middle, slipping it between the grommets and stitching the two loose ends together on the inside of the purse.

I now have a little handle to wrap around my wrist.
