You Will Need (7 things)

  • Sewing Machine
  • Elastic
  • Chalk
  • Pin(s)
  • Fabric
  • Shears
  • Thread

Steps (13 steps, 150 minutes)

  1. 1

Start off with some fabric of your choice. Make sure its way bigger than the size you want it to be . the picture shown is showing how i started. i folded the fabric up from the middle. the top is gong to be the waist.

  2. 2

from the folded fabric, put your shears into the fabric and cut along the folded line that we just made. the red line shows where you should cut

  3. 3

Next cut a piece of fabric 18inches by 1 inch , this is going to be our belt loops

  4. 4

Fold a piece of fabric four times. Make sure the fabric is really big. Draw out a shape like this on your fabric, this is going to be our pockets.

  5. 5

After you cut out the pokets, lay your fabric out in front of you, on the widest right piece measure 3 inches down, then 5 inches down, and then pin your pockets, flat piece on the side, to the edge of your fabric. Do the same on the other side. Sew down the red line. you should have 4 pockets to go on the skirt. so one pocket should go on each side of the skirt

  6. 6

Put the skirt , right sides together, and sew along the red line

  7. 7

Fold the bottom of your skirt over 1 inch. Pin and sew along the red line

  8. 8

On the top of the skirt were going to gather. Not the way most people show where you sew two lines then pull the bottom string. we dont have to worry about getting it even either itll already be even :] . SET YOUR MACHINE TO THE LONGEST STITCH AND THE HIGHEST TENSION. THEN SEW ALONG THE TOP OF THE WAIST. your gathers will automatically come out without any extra work :]

  9. 9

On the inside of the gathers, sew a thin elastic waistband onto it so it fits snug around your body. dont forget to pull the elastic so itll stretch

  10. 10

Cut out some fabric that can wrap around your waist 2 or 3 times and 2x the length you want the ruffles to be. then fold them down (in half) with right side facing you and gather like we did earlier. then set your stitch and tension back to normal and attach it to your skirt (on the inside but on the same line as your ruffles. pull the elastic and be careful not to undo the ruffles

  11. 11

go back to the 1' by 18' piece we cut earlier. Fold the fabric in half and press. then open and fold one side to the middle then fold the other side to the middle. press the fabric. then fold it in half again, it should be this size. then sew down one side to close it. then on the edge close to the fold sew down that so it is double sewed.

  12. 12

Measure about 3.5 inches for each loop and draw a line with your chalk. then cut. in the front measure 3 and 5 inches down on the skirt (from the waist not the top of the ruffles) . fold the loop over and attach to the skirt. fold the bottom over aswell and sew. you should have about 5 belt loops. attach them where you want them to be

  13. 13

This is the finished skirt :] put it on, put a belt through your loops and enjoy
