Description

Hanging pyramid made out of straws with dangling ornament inside.

Instructions

First, decorate your ornament by adding in the small decorations inside. Leave it aside when done. I used winter decorations because right now is the winter season, which is my favorite.

Next, to make the geometric pyramid, first cut four straws into sizes like these, cutting off the edge right before the bent of the straw (this is your base):

Then, take a floral wire and after a few inches, bend it then string in the straw from the other side like so:

Once the straw is strung into the wire, bend the end of the wire and repeat the same process until the wire runs out.

Once the wire runs out (by this time two straws should have been strung in), take another wire and tape the end of the wire to the first wire then string in another straw. Bend the wire and cut off the excess wire (after leaving a few inches of the wire off) after the first wire touches the second wire. Save the excess wire for later. *Note* The directions are a bit confusing but just remember that your goal is to make a square. So as long as it results in a square then you’re good!

Next, string in one straw through the longer wire. Then hot glue the end of the wire that is not strung in yet and quickly place it into the straw. There’s the base of the pyramid.

Now for pyramid, cut off four straws like how it was originally cut for the bottom square shape. Then for the last four straws, cut off half of the straw and save the bottom half (the one that does not have ridges). Connect the long straw with the short straw until it’s the same length as a regular straw. The reason for this process is to avoid the ridges of the original straw in order to create a smoother surface.

Next with the remaining wire, take a few inches of the wire then bend it until the wires touch. Hook the wire into a corner of the square:

Then string in a straw into the wire. Repeat this for the next three straws.

Cut the end of each wire, leaving a few inches off each wire. Then bend the wire insert it through the opposite straw to secure the top:

Then, hot glue the top of the wires and the corners of the square in order to make the pyramid more secure.

When done building the pyramid, spray paint the pyramid and let it dry depending on the instructions on the can. I prefer to let it dry overnight in order to get rid of the odor. After the spray paint is dry, cut off a foot of twine and string it through the ornament. Tie it on top of the pyramid, leaving a few inches from the top so it is dangling. Cut off excess string. You’re done! Overall, I prefer using floral wire because it is more stable and can handle the weight of the ornament. Enjoy this modern decor!
