Handy Peg Bag

a handy place to keep all your pegs!

Our family peg bag has been on its last legs for atleast a year. It was mouldy and ripped to pieces, so I decided to wip up a new one! I cut the mini hanger out of the old peg bag, but you could use a children's hanger instead. The seam allowance is 1cm throughout. I realy hope you find my tutorial easy to follow, and if you have a go - please upload your version, I'd love to see it!

Our family peg bag has been on its last legs for atleast a year. It was mouldy and ripped to pieces, so I decided to wip up a new one! I cut the mini hanger out of the old peg bag, but you could use a children's hanger instead. The seam allowance is 1cm throughout. Instructions

  1. Small 034 1313939641

First, cut your fabric. I decided to choose a different fabric for the back than the front. For piece 3: Measure the length of your hanger, and add 2cm. This will be your width. Now decide how long you want the peg bag to be. In hindsight, I made mine a little long, so I would suggest something like 30cm. Add 2cm to this. This gives you your length. For piece 1 & 2: Make one piece with the same width as piece three, but aprox. 10cm longer. Now cut this in half, to give you two pieces.

Take piece 1 & 2. Sew one side of each (width, not length) in a french seam. This is simply folding it over twice so that no raw edge can be seen, and sewing down with a sewing machine. Then trim off any loose threads.

  3. Small 041 1313940199

Iron all 3 pieces, so that they are smooth. Now lay piece 3 flat, and lay piece 1 & 2 on top, right sides together. Lay piece 1 and 2 so that all of the outside edges match up with piece 3, and there is an overlap in the middle.

  4. Small 042

Choose which end the hanger will go. I made a mistake, and put it at the end nearest the visible overlap. You should put it the end furthest from the overlap. Mark the space where the hangers handle will go with a dress makers pencil. You should NOT sew this part. Pin and sew all the way around the outside.

Trim any loose threads and the seams, and turn it right side out.

Slip the hanger inside, and pin it in place. You now need to sew it in. If your hanger is too large to machine stitch, hand sew it. Sew as close to the hanger as possible, to stop it moving about.

Wallah! Fill your bag with pegs, and hang out your washing with style.
