Description

I started off with a tube top and played around with the design and ended with a couple of detailed finishings. Perfect for casual wear or for a night out, paired with jeans/shorts.

Instructions

  1. Small step2 1247113845

Hem along the two longer ends of the fabric. This will be the hem on the top and bottom part of your tube top.

  2. Small step5 1247114347

For my top, I hemmed the two edges together and flipped it inside out so you end with a hem going down the middle of your back. - This would be the back view of the tube top -

  3. Small step1 1247113610

*Fabric with some stretch will make this project easier to work with and will generally fit better. Start with 1m of your fabric choice. (This should be enough for the 3 components of the top: the tube top, the strap, and the bow) Measure around your chest to make the tube top portion. You should end with a rectangular shape like this.

  4. Small step6 1247114569

Turn your top over to the front side and now we are going to cinch the front into a sweetheart-cut. To do this, you want to pinch the middle of the fabric to how ever low you want your V to be. For mine, I cinched about 2-3 inches. Hold this in place with your thumb and index finger.

  5. Small step7 1247114742

This part is a little bit tricky. You want to hold the two parts in place like so and turn it away from you until the stacks are on top of one another. Once you have this part in place, sew the cinched fabric together (about 1-2 inches should do) until it's all connected.

  6. Small step9 1247115040

This is to make the strap for the top. There are lots of variations to making a strap as some like to have a tie behind the neck, which requires two straps, but this features a single strap. Start by cutting out a strip of fabric that is 2-4 inches thick, depending on how thick you want your strap to be. - Be sure to cut the strip longer than you would want it so that you can snip off excess fabric rather than not having enough. -

  7. Small step10 1247115305

To make the strap, you need a shoe lace. Sew the top of the shoe lace to the top of the fabric like so (end where the dotted line stops).

  8. Small step11 1247115394

Sew alongside the shoe lace to the fabric, making sure that you don't sew the shoelace to the fabric along the way. Continue until you've reached the end.

  9. Small step12 1247115474

Hold the end of the strap gently in one hand and pull the shoelace with the other. Pull the entire strap through itself, until it is right side out and snip off the shoelace from the end to end up with something like this.

  10. Small step14 1247115631

For this step, put on the top and measure the strap from one side to the other to feel out how tight you want the strap to be. (Make the two marks on the inside to indicate where the strap ends will be sewed). Sew the ends of each strap onto the inside of the top so that the hems are hidden.

  11. Small step15 1247115735

To make the bow, cut out two strips of fabric (one to attach to the top, and the other to create the bow) to your width preference depending on how large or small you want your bow. For my top, i've made the bow slightly smaller in size.

  12. Small step17 1247115795

Sew the two ends of the bow onto the backside of your top, approximately 2-3 inches away from each side. - When doing this step, make sure you don't sew the ends through to the front of the top. -

And there you have it! A simple but cute halter top with a sweetheart-cut front and a bow detail on the back. Hope you like it! <3 franneh
