Halloween Pinata

I make these every year with my children for their classrooms, it's a good alternative to sending little bags of treats (and much more fun)...

I make these with my children every year, they are easy to make and fun. It usually takes us a few days to complete them because the papier-mâché needs to dry in between coats.

You Will Need (10 things)

  • 2 Googly Eyes
  • 2 Pinata Stuffers / Candy
  • Black Paint
  • 8 Pipe Cleaner(s)
  • Flour
  • 2 Balloon
  • Water
  • Liquid Glue
  • Newspapers Cut into 1" strips
  • Optional: Wire Hanger

Steps (12 steps, 4320 minutes)

  1. 1

First take 2 balloons and blow them up,on bigger than the other.
Make a papier-mâché paste with glue, flour and water, stir, add water or flour until the paste looks like muffin batter.

  2. 2

Take newspapers and tear them into strips. Papier-mâché (dip the newspapers into the paste and wipe off excess) the balloons. Let dry completely. Repeat twice, letting it dry in between coats.

  3. 3

POP the balloons and cut a whole in the top of the big balloon, it should look like this.

If you plan to hang the pinata you will need a wire hanger. Poke a hole on the top of the big balloon, bend the hanger and insert the hook part through the hole and voila, you can now hang the pinata. Be certain to add extra glue and reinforce around where the hole was made.

  4. 4

Paint the bigger halve, let dry.

  5. 5

Poke wholes on the slides and insert the pipe cleaners.

  6. 6

Glue them into place, let them dry.

  7. 7

Paint the smaller balloon, I use the bigger halve to set it on.

  8. 8

Stuff the pinata with goodies, this year we used mini play d'oh.

  9. 9

Glue the head on the body.

  10. 10

Let the glue dry and then use a bit paint to blend it together.

  11. 11

    Bend the legs all funky.

  12. 12

Glue some eyes...and you gotta spider pinata!
