For this tutorial I will be demonstrating with the eyeball. Firstly, you need to cut out the felt. Two same-size pieces of white, a red circle for an extra ghoulish iris, and a small black circle for the pupil.
Sew the pupil onto the iris using black thread, and use white embroidery thread to sew on some reflective shine. (Alternatively, just cut out a tiny piece of white felt to sew on.)
Secure the paper clip to one of the pieces of white felt. Be careful not to stitch the paper clip too high up that it becomes useless. It doesn't matter if the stitching is not neat, as it will all be hidden.
Sew the iris, or in the case of the other designs, the mouth, to the felt, making sure all of the stitching from attaching the paper clip is hidden. Rather than sewing around the circumference of the iris, stitch in straight lines from the border to the pupil to mirror the radiating pattern of an eye.
Sew the two pieces of white felt together using an overcast stitch. I chose to do this in red cotton to look like ghoulish eye veins, and because it makes the eyeball pop, but you could also use white thread.
Your new creepy paper clip is ready for use. I'm sending mine away in mailers I've made filled with little treats and sweets to busy students who otherwise wouldn't have time to celebrate Halloween. The only question left is to wonder which is scarier; the paper clip or all the revision notes it is securing!
